One of two experimental electrics tested on the Penn Central and Conrail
Experimental/demonstrator. Rather than buying new electric locomotives, Conrail will discontinue electric freight operations.
EMD-GM built a pair of electric locomotives in the 1970's, a GM6 on the frame of a SD40-2 and a unique GM10. Both worked the Penn Central/Conrail electric lines with GM staff onboard.
